About Me

Introduction

Hi, I’m Ashok Kumar Khatkar, a BC3 category Boccia player from Uchana Kalan, District Jind, Haryana. Living with muscular dystrophy since early childhood, my life has been full of physical challenges — but I turned those into my strength through sports, studies, and awareness efforts.

My Journey with Muscular Dystrophy

🧬 I was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when I was just 3 years old. By age 5, I began falling while walking. At 7, I could no longer climb stairs or stand without support. At age 9, I started using a wheelchair, and by 14, I became fully bedridden.

📚 Due to mobility issues, I couldn’t attend city schools. I studied till 4th standard in a village school, then studied from home for years. I resumed formal education after a 7-year gap through NIOS, completed 10th, and now I’m in the final semester of BCA from IGNOU.

Boccia Journey

🎯 My Boccia journey started in 2024. I discovered Boccia, a sport made for people like me. Though I started late, within months I won my first national medal.

🏅 Major Achievements:

  • 🥉 8th National Boccia Championship 2023-24, Gwalior – Bronze (Men’s Individual BC3)
  • 🥉 9th National Boccia Championship 2024-25, Visakhapatnam – Bronze (Men’s Individual BC3)
  • 🌍 Represented India at:
  • Bahrain 2025 World Boccia Challenger
  • Saudi Arabia International Boccia Training Camp (May 2025)

My Most Memorable Match

🔥 My most memorable match was the bronze medal final at the 8th National. I lost the first 3 ends but changed my strategy in the last end, scored 4 points from 9.5 meters, and won the match.

Motivation & Support

💪 My journey has not been easy. But my biggest strength has been my brother Sachin, who is also my coach and ramp operator.

🌟 My inspiration is Stephen Hawking, who proved that even a paralyzed body can carry an unstoppable mind.

From Gurukul Khera to Global Boccia

📍 Born in Gurukul Khera, I now live in Uchana Kalan. I proudly represent Haryana. I want to bring state and national recognition to Boccia.
